Simple Life

A Simple Life
Electric living not good for woman or man
Babylon alters towering from the sand
Let’s reconnect – come take my hand
We made big plans for some future feast
But God is the boss of man and beast
Let’s skip town let’s find our peace
Let’s go to the country deep in the eastern wood
Water sweet and the air tastes good
Let’s pull the plug I really think we should
Pull the plug from the socket, Put away our toys
We won’t miss a thing but that lonely noise
It takes flesh and blood to make love
No man can destroy
Gears are grinding - we won’t last forever
I’m at ease whenever we are together
I’m at my ease when we’re together
Present in the matter of your pleasure
We’ll be eating real fine when the corn tops ripe
Rise in the morning sleep easy at night
Make love in the morning sleep easy at night
Let’s disconnect and live a simple life
Pull the plug from the socket, Put away our toys
We won’t miss a thing but that lonely noise
It takes flesh and blood to make love
No man can destroy

How Long

How Long
How Long, How Long
How long, how long
Good loving kills me, strike me dead
This morning I Went Fishing
I got swallowed by a whale
I wonder how much farther
To the varmints tail
I was saved by the virgin maiden
She picked up my lance
Slayed that dirty dragon
We had us a little dance
After creation
We did multiply
And divided into nations
This made the Lord cry
‘I’m going to give you one more chance
Next time will be fire
Love comes from the breast
The mind creates desire’

The Light

The Light
When we meet somebody
We stand before the light
Down inside
Burning bright
Keeping eyes wide open
Searching for the light
Deep inside
Shine Bright
While I’m on this journey
I tote this heavy load
The weight is mine
To carry alone
When I loose this body
Leave this world behind
I am the light
Shine bright

Freedom Creek

Freedom Creek
Down in Alabama near the Mississippi line
Deep in the woods there’s a break in the pine
A field of corn, beans and potato vine
Planted by the King and he’s a friend of mine
What you seek is Freedom Creek
He was raised by the Wolf he marched by Martin’s side
He never wavered although he was terrorized
He said ‘we‘re all brothers, standing side by side
Help one another; hold your head up high’
What you seek is Freedom Creek
Birmingham George, Carolina Shines
All your friends are going to be there this time
Hubert Sumlin, Honeyboy and Sam Lay
T-Model Ford will rock your blues away
A beautiful example of how we can get along
Born apart, brought together by song
The devils laid out in the ditch he can’t do us wrong
Our destiny is bright, love is strong
What you seek is Freedom Creek
Wade in the water…..

San Antone
In a little cantina by the river in San Antone
Walked in the only seniorita who could offer this heart a home
I had prayed for respite
When I thought it would not come at all
She took my hand and asked if I was alone
Somehow tequila proceeded before my eyes open
My mind rolled again
To a little cafe between Lake Mead and the Altar run
Dusty circles we spun in the new Neon
With your hand in mine
I’m free of this time
She took my name before the desert sun
Somehow tequila proceeded before my eyes open
My mind rolled again
RED dust RED dust RED dust
In a little bodega I made her when the water rushed her to my door
A white cotton dress was all she wore
I had prayed for respite
When I thought it would not come at all
She came took my love and gave me more
Soon the blossom proceeded to open
My mind rolled again

Nina
She’s got Caramel skin
And Coffee eyes
She lives at the end of the road
With the crocodiles
Her dreams are secrets
Jewels in her hands
And when she shakes her hips
There fall a dozen men
Her pantera stare
Looks deep in your soul
Her love can heal
But I don’t want to know
Tide glows, shark rolls,
Salty kisses in the undertow
We’re shooting stars
We won’t be back no more

Melody
Lover, share with me
A sweet mmelody
Like a tune we’ve always known
When inhibitions gone
Open and free
Sweet mmelody
Puts a smile right there
You’ll start dancing everywhere
Rising and falls we meet
Up and down the sheet
We won’t be strangers in the rhythm changes
Forte, Pianissimo
Oh the places we’ll go
Medium, forte
Encore
Lover, share with me
In dolce harmony
So sweet in refrain
To repeat again and again

Chicken Reprise
Love your boiled eggs – soft and running wild
Nothing satisfy – like your country pie
Chicken pie – chicken pie
I go crazy – if I don’t get my chicken pie
She said try, try, try; my homemade pie
Made with love – it’ll make a grown man cry
Chicken Pie – Chicken Pie
I love my chicken pie

Ain't Gonna Drink No More
I ain't gonna drink no more
Ain't gonna drink no more
All this booze gone to my head
Ain't gonna drink no more
I ain't gonna dream no more
Ain't gonna dream no more
All these dreams done broke my heart
Ain't gonna dream no more
I ain't gonna sing no more
Ain't gonna sing no more
And I ain't gonna love no more
Ain't gonna love no more
All your love gone to my head
Ain't gonna love no more

Midnight Friend

Midnight Friend
I have a midnight friend
I see her when the moon gets high
When the morning comes
We say goodbye
It’s hard to love more than one
Woman at a time
If they get together
They are going to blow your mind
My good girl wants to know the reason why
I need plenty of your love or I begin to lose my mind
At night she sees angels
Flying through her head
I drink plenty brown liquor
and think about the good things she has said
I have a midnight friend
I see her when the moon is high
When the morning comes
We say goodbye

Fowl Play
Early morning', scratch for seed
Gobble up the chicken feed
Suppertime whatcha got
Momma put the bird right in the pot
Frog and a chicken went courting’ yesterday
“Say pretty Hen we’ll marry someday”
Here come the farmer, Wrung the bird’s neck
“I eats my chicken in an alphabet; soup that is”
There was a hen her name was Sadie
I know she made good gravy
Butter biscuits, Collard greens
Sweet Potatoes and black-eyed peas
Late last night come the prodigal son
Left with plenty, returned with none
Fat the calf, tap the keg
He come back home for the chicken leg
There was a rooster, red and yella
He was a very mellow fella
Until his thigh caught mommas eye
Here he is in the chicken pie
